About the Owner, Austin Hohnke
After exiting the U.S Army in 2014, I got locked out of my home in Ft. Myers, FL and called a local locksmith to help me get back inside. I was so impressed with the work the locksmith did unlocking my door, the next day I applied for a job and was hired as a safe moving technician. After moving hundreds of safes, I began working on locks and vehicles keys as well. I really enjoyed the work I was doing and thought I’d like it even more if I were my own boss.
Fast forward to 2020, I moved to Montrose, CO and started my own locksmith company, Honk-Key Lock & Safe. I have completed training programs from Lockmasters Security Institute in Nicholasville, KY including Professional Safe Lock Opening, Combination Lock Manipulation, Safe Lock Servicing, and Access Control Technician.
I’m a member of SAVTA (Safe And Vault Technicians Association) and have a passion for working with safes/vault doors. I have completed training at the ASSA ABLOY Academy in Ontario, Canada for installing hollow metal doors and frames. I’m also a licensed Fire Door Inspector. My company offers complete door service from installing the door/frame, adding the lock hardware, to installing access control systems. We make keys for most vehicles, including: all keys lost, keys by code, spare key duplication, ignition repairs & replacements, key & remote programming.
In 2025 we are opening a second storefront location in Grand Junction, CO to better serve our community.
